The Colt AR 15 very soon found its way into military use in the early 1960’s, offering shooters in the United States Air Force and Special Forces a select-fire option. When the United States got into involvement with Vietnam in 1963, it soon became clear that Springfield Armory was not going to be able to keep up with the production of the standard M14 battle rifles.
