Book distribution tips
Book publishing tips for unknown and known authors? Consider Your Book Cover Design Carefully: Your book cover design is an important tool for marketing your book to readers. With great print quality and a good cover design, no one will be able to tell your self-published book from one that’s published by a major traditional publisher. It’s good to educate yourself on what makes a good book cover design, but if you aren’t a designer by trade, it’s also best to hire a professional.
Host an autograph party: Send out invitations and flyers in advance to advertise the release of your book. Arrange speaking engagements: Offer to speak for free as an expert in your field and subject matter, and sell copies of your book afterward. This could be at a local library, community college or coffee house. Enter Competitions: Check out the Writer’s Digest International Self-Publishing Book Awards, (Independent Publisher Book Awards) Ippy Awards or the Ben Franklin Awards sponsored by IBPA, The Independent Book Publisher’s Association.
Keep in touch with your fans. As bestselling writer Bella Andre told DBW (Digital Book World): When I released my first original self-published story (LOVE ME) in July 2010 I took a week and wrote a personal email to everyone who had ever written to me in the previous five years. Almost every one of them wrote back to say, “Wow, I can’t believe you still had my email!” LOVE ME was a sequel to a book that Pocket had put out in 2005 (TAKE ME). For five years readers sent me email asking for the sequel. It was a thrill to finally be able to give it to them.
